Recently I was working on a new project for me, replacement of an entire LCD screen of a notebook. The closest I had gotten to that was the inverter replacement for my T40 (which I sold on ebay :-D). It was a friend’s system and I was afraid that I may screw it up badly.

After taking the cracked LCD off I began looking for a replacement screen. Oddly enough I found one through Google and NotebookReview.com from a guy who lives near me and was selling it for $50 cheaper than all other places. I messaged him and he said he would ship it. Paid him and waited. After about a week I got the screen yesterday. Immediately I got to installing it in the laptop. To my greatest surprise, the screen works and I was able to put the computer back together. I only have 2 left over screws!

Here is a slide show including the before and after:

Being hesitant to purchase a ticket for Wanted, I went into the theater expecting nothing more than some run-of-the-mill action flick. I was not a huge fan of the concept of spinning/turning bullets. The only pull factor for me to see the movie was Angelina Jolie.

Given my predesposition to the movie, I never thought I would sit down a write a review, much less a praise for the movie. However, soon after the beginning credits roled I was entranced into the story of the main character, an ordinary accountant, or so he thought.

After more plot twists than I could shake a stick at, I was sitting at the edge of my seat trying to comprehend who was good and who was bad. Ultimately, the movie was excellent. Though it may not win any awards for best acting it has a lot to offer. From ridicously sick car chases to numerous futuristic battles and weapons, this movie has almost as many effects as all three Matrix movies combined.

My final verdict is that the movie is well worth the money and time to watch it if you enjoy action flicks with extreme special effects. Did I mention that Angelina Jolie drove a Lada? GO SEE IT!

For more critically acclaimed reviews, check out RottenTomatoes.

I recently purchased an IBM Thinkpad T41 from a shady man…but for a great price. I paid $75 for this beast of a system. At first, it seemed to have everything and it actually powered on….How wrong was I. The system lacks a hard drive at the moment. Once I was able to power it on it beeped like mad. After some research I found out that long beep followed by 2 short beeps means to check the System Board, DIMM, and LCD assembly, in that order. I took the memory out and tested it in my trusty T30. The memory works. I’m hoping the System Board is ok, since i have no way of testing that. Finally I called IBM support and they told me that the LCD inverter may need to be replaced. I used a tutorial from Laptop Repair 101on how to disassemble the LCD.

As it currently stands, I ordered an LCD inverter from Ebay. I am hoping that this would fix it as I can not wait to use this sweet computer.

If everything works out, this could be a wonderful system for about $100-130.

I will keep you posted on the progress of the system update / work status.

Edit:

Here are some pictures of the LCD taken apart:
