Nokia support rocks! They shipped me a replacement phone with overnight shipping!! The thing that sucks is that they sent it on Friday the 14th and it came to Maryland today, the 15th, but it will be out for delivery on the 17th, when I will be back at College Park. I will not get to play with it until the 25th, but it will make a sweet Thanksgiving gift. I am just hoping that they remembered to ship back my memory card.

Thanks Nokia for the quick service! I shall continue my loyalty to your kick-ass phones.

iPhone still sort of sucks…Had to charge it a few times during the day to keep it going.

I also learned today that I was 1000 sms over my limit of 1500 messages. Due to the outrageous sms prices, that would have been over $100 for sms. Luckily I was able to upgrade to unlimited texting, back dating to the beginning of the month, so all should be fine.

Last night, my beloved Nokia N82 refused reading any memory cards! I tried 3 different ones, 2 2GB cards and 1 8GB card. All to no avail. This morning I received my new 8GB card in the mail (had ordered it a few days ago) and it also did not work in the N82. Numerous times I reset the phone using the *#7370# code…no dice. I called Nokia Customer Support and after a few minutes was told to ship my phone in ( I dreaded the sound of that).

Getting together all the paperwork to prove when I purchased the phone, I ran to the local MailBoxes Etc. on campus and shipped the phone to Placo for the outrageous price of $22.89 via UPS. I hope that it gets to Alabama on time and that they are able to fix/repair the phone or send me a new one (free of charge would be nice).

I am now using my backup phone, a 2G iPhone, which i just upgraded to 2.1 and jailbroke. Hopefully it will be good and work until I get my real phone back. So far I am missing all my music from my N82, my downloaded podcasts, the keypad, and most of all MMS capabilities.

I will keep the blog updated daily until I receive my N82 back, in case others have to go through this, to let them know what happens.

Recently I was working on a new project for me, replacement of an entire LCD screen of a notebook. The closest I had gotten to that was the inverter replacement for my T40 (which I sold on ebay ). It was a friend’s system and I was afraid that I may screw it up badly.

After taking the cracked LCD off I began looking for a replacement screen. Oddly enough I found one through Google and NotebookReview.com from a guy who lives near me and was selling it for $50 cheaper than all other places. I messaged him and he said he would ship it. Paid him and waited. After about a week I got the screen yesterday. Immediately I got to installing it in the laptop. To my greatest surprise, the screen works and I was able to put the computer back together. I only have 2 left over screws!

Here is a slide show including the before and after:

I recently purchased an IBM Thinkpad T41 from a shady man…but for a great price. I paid $75 for this beast of a system. At first, it seemed to have everything and it actually powered on….How wrong was I. The system lacks a hard drive at the moment. Once I was able to power it on it beeped like mad. After some research I found out that long beep followed by 2 short beeps means to check the System Board, DIMM, and LCD assembly, in that order. I took the memory out and tested it in my trusty T30. The memory works. I’m hoping the System Board is ok, since i have no way of testing that. Finally I called IBM support and they told me that the LCD inverter may need to be replaced. I used a tutorial from Laptop Repair 101on how to disassemble the LCD.

As it currently stands, I ordered an LCD inverter from Ebay. I am hoping that this would fix it as I can not wait to use this sweet computer.

If everything works out, this could be a wonderful system for about $100-130.

I will keep you posted on the progress of the system update / work status.

Edit:

Here are some pictures of the LCD taken apart:
